  • What are some sailing destinations from Naples?
There are many options. To the north there is Estero Bay with it's famous indian mound preserve on Mound Key, Pine Island Sound with it's barrier islands of Sanibel, Captiva and Cayo Costa, and Charlotte Harbour with it's wide expanse of water and inlets and towns to explore. Fishing for snook, redfish and seatrout are excellent. Ninety miles to the south are the Florida Keys with it's reefs, clear waters and fishing. There is the upbeat/ offbeat / interesting-to-explore Key West with its great restaurants and numerous attractions and sights. This is "The Conch Republic" - a "caribbean island within the US". Further west is the Dry Tortugus National Park which has the massive Ft. Jefferson awaitng your explorations and phenomenal coral reefs, long protected by the marine sanctuary. Just south of Naples the Ten Thousand Islands, essentially the coastline of the Everglades, begins and is a great place for nature and solitude. Many times in life, "where you want to go> you are already there". This is true of Naples. To the immediate south is Keewaydin Island with it's 7 mile beach and great shelling. Take a "shell walk" - a stroll on the beach looking for interesting shells and sealife. Often you look north and south and realize you have the beach to yourself. To the east of Keewaydin, Rookery Bay Preserve has peaceful bays and creeks for exploring and fishing.
